Sales For Outlook (ISV Integration)
Posted by Farhan Zia on July 18th, 2003

Hello, I have gone through the ISV integration for browser client but
actually
just putting my hands in the sales for outlook client. So, I need to ask
some
basic questions...

i- My understanding is that there is a built-in Addin provided with the
sales for outlook client and we are not allowed to perform any ISV
integration in it. Is it right?

ii - If the answer to above question is correct, can we just customize it to
some extent? If so, how much.

iii - To integrate ISV in it, do I need to write my own Addin for outlook,
if this is the only solution for now..... I will appreciate any basic steps
towards it. Or a link from where I can get some help.

Thanks

Hello Ray,

Thanks for the response. Could you please mention which newer version of
Sales for Outlook client you are talking about? I have the older version I
guess because on my local machine I have a file "isv.config" just as it is
on the server for browser client. On the server however we have to enable
the customization swtich in the web.config file. At the local computer there
couldn't be such a file like web.config. How can I then enable customization
with this version? Is it possible at all or all I need to do is to install
the newer version you mentioned. Please let me know the version number.

Second, I am keen to know how actually in the newer version ISV Integration
will work. I have seen the htm pages that are residing on my local machine
which Sales for Outlook uses. There is java script used in all of them which
is utilizing Microsoft.CRM.Proxy.dll objects to get data. If I follow the
same scheme then it means I have to create my htm pages and utilize the
Microsoft.CRM.Proxy.dll objects through java script as it is done in the
pre-build pages for Sales for Outlook. Is this right? How will I deploy all
my created stuff to the clients? Can you please send me some links related
to all this information that how actually ISV Integration is done in Sales
for Outlook client. This will be a great help because I have already
searched the web for any help regarding it but couldnt find anything related
to it.

Thanks and I appreciate your time.
