Sales for Outlook - Offline Error
Posted by Jean-Nicolas on June 28th, 2004

Hi,

When in offline mode in Outlook, I always get an Access
Denied error. The process of going offline always goes
without error though. It's when I want to access the data
that I get the message.

In this newsgroup, I found that changing the value of a
registry key solves the problem. And it does. The only
thing is that I have to tweak the registry value each time
I go offline.

The key is
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINES\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\MSCRM\UserS ecInfo
You change the first pair of numbers to 00

This can't be acceptable since "normal users" will use
this feature. No way I'll show them how to change a
registry value, this is a plan to serious potential
problems.

Anyone has a better solution to resolve acces denied error
when accessing offline content?

Jean-Nicolas

how long is your computers name. There may be an issue with the offline
outlook client if your computer name is longer than 13 characters. I had the
exact same problem with the access denied until i renamed my computer to a
shorter name

Hi,

I have exactly the same issue with the 'access denied' error - something
that the Regedit fix (from this group) mentioned fixes as well...

My hostname is 9 characters so can't see how that should make any difference.

And just like you - in order to synch I have to go and change the value
every time I want to use the offline SFO

After attending the ANZ partner conference and temporarily believing the
supposed fix for all things offline including this one would be part of the
1.2 feature pack 'upgrade' I then downloaded and applied.... suprise suprise
- made no difference at all...

Surely if MS know the Regedit modification fixes the issue, something a
little less amateur than modifiying a regkey could be distributed?

Does anyone have a 'proper' fix?

Cheers

Simon

There is no fix yet for CRM 1.2. I have been told there wa a fix for version
1 and that a fix is in process for 1.2 but nothing yet. The only solution
right now is to keep updating the usersecinfo registry entry ie set the
first byte to 00 etc.

Sorry but there is no other solution unless you right a script so your users
can run the script to do it each time.

I get the error for only Account Record Types, when the user in SFO clicks on
the Accounts Folder.. will this fix also work?

Thanks
