- Sales Process in Opportunity Record?
- Posted by Sinead on January 17th, 2006
Hi there,
I have a quick question regarding the Sales Process tab in an opportunity
record. I have created and implemented a sales process workflow, which seems
to be working fine. Users manually change stages and both the probability
and sales step fields automatically change, as expected.
What I want to figure out is what the Sales Process tab/menu on the left
menu pane is for in the Opportunity record. When I open this tab/menu in any
active opportunity, I see a view that lists our sales process stages and a
column called 'Completed'. Funny thing is that the 'Completed' column is
always empty.
My guess is it should auotmatically note when a stage is complete, but it
does not in our case. Am I right? If so, what do I need to do/change to
make this work?
My thinking is that I will be able to evaluate closed opportunities later to
determine at what stage we either lost opportunities in the sales process or
how many stages it took for us to get a win.
Can anyone help me out on this one or point me to where I can learn more.
Many thanks for your help.
Sinead.

Hi Sinead,
The Sales Process tab in the active opportunities is to show where that opportunity is in the sales process. And I think you're asking about "Status" column which notifies the users of the status of each of the tasks/stages.
For example say the sales process is a two stage process, in the first stage there are 3 tasks that the sales users need to complete before moving to the second stage, and the second stage has some automatic e-mails being sent and a final task for the user to complete. Once the rule is activated and an opportunity is created, you'd see the Sales Process in that opportunity with all the tasks for stage 1 as open and all the tasks for stage 2 disabled with "Pending" status.
Users can then complete the stage 1 tasks to activate stage 2. The Status column will reflect the status of the tasks as Completed/Canceled. When stage2 is enabled, the automatic e-mails will get sent and their status will automatically be "Completed". And then the user can go and finish the final task.
Thanks.

Hi Manisha,
When I change stages from stage 2 to stage 4 for instance .. the
workflow engine does not close out the activities from stage 2 ..
leaving them open. a) why is that and b) is there anything I can add
to the sales process to automatically close out previous stage
activities?
Thanks,
JACU

Hi JACU,
I'm curious to know how you are changing stages from stage 2 to stage 4.
Could you provide the specific UI steps that you are taking when trying to
change stages? Also, the Stages 2 and 3 in the sales process - do they have
any conditions (like waitfor activity A to complete, etc)?
