Setup unable to register security service
Posted by Tim on February 8th, 2004

I am attempting to install CRM v1.2 onto a W2K3 server
that is also running Exch2K3 and also SharePoint Portal
2K3. I did not see anything written anywhere saying that
this could not be accomplished.

The installation seems to be okay (the databases are
created, etc.) except for the issue with "registering" the
CRMSecurityService service. I'm not exactly sure why this
is happening, but there is also a message stating "Access
Denied". I am logged in as a user with Domain Admin as
well as Local Admin authority. I have a feeling if
someone could tell me how to register the service so I can
get it running (it's the only service that does not start)
my install will be fine. For all intents and purposes the
service appears to be registered, but it still won't
start. I'm assuming this is why the installation says it
fails if I select "Ignore" when the error message comes up.

Any help will be GREATLY appreciated.

Hi:

Is the SQL server machine a member server in the same domain? Is the machine
you're installing CRM on the Primary Domain Controller for your domain? Make
sure the account you are installing under has ALL the necessary permissions,
things like Enterprise Admins group, Group Policy Creator Owners Group,
Print Operators Group, etc. A good way to check this is to open the
Administrator account, and make sure the account you are using is a member
of all the same security groups as the Admin account...

Thanks.

John.

Yes, the SQL Server is a member server in the same
domain. No, the machine I am installing on is a member
server too. I actually tried it on two different servers
thinking that Exch2K3 or SharePoint Portal 2K3 might be
having something to do with it, but I get the same failure
on both servers.

As for the user I am using, it's kind of funny because it
IS the domain "Administrator" account. It's not actually
a member of the Print Operators Group, but I wouldn't
think that would matter considering all of the other
privileges it has.

It still feels like a permissions issue, but it shouldn't
be. I was also thinking it may be some DLL file that's
corrupt on the CD or something.

Any other thoughts?? I appreciate your reply.
