"setup was unable to register the security service" error on insta
Posted by Kastigador on February 28th, 2005

We currently have a 2K3 server that we are trying to install CRM 1.2 on. and
we get held up at this error: "setup was unable to register the security
service" It is evident that that service is in fact registered, but it would
seem like it fails to start. Asd a result, the whole entire installation
fails.

Background:
Installing to SQL Server 2000 on another machine running 2K server.
Logged in as domain admin(via terminal services).
Machine were installing to is nothing more than a rack server set up for
testing that is just another machine in our domain.

When we try to start the service manually we simply get an Error 1053.

Did some more investigation, although the information it yielded is a little
perplexing. When trying to start the security service is debug mode I got
this: "1788 (0x000006FC) The trust relationship between the primary domain
and the trusted domain failed." Still hoping someone has a suggestion for me.
Thanks.

Is the SQL server in same domain as CRM server?

have you installed crm in this domain before? Also not the security service
has a debug mode that you can read about in my faq below. Sometimes (not
always) this can help track the issue down.

We're getting the same error message. we had CRM installed and
working nicely in our test environment (which was set up exactly as
the live system we're now installing on) but the install of CRM 1.2
failed last night with the error message described by Kastigador.

John, we have followed your info from the Microsoft site with no joy.
Any further suggestions?

Cheers in advance
Niall

Hi John, hi Kastigador,

did you found something how to fix this? I've got the same error here; I am
also already in touch with MS CRM support; but until now we've got no fix for
that.
I really would appreciate any hints.

Sven
