SFO client installation failed during MSDE sp3a installation
Posted by Mike on July 17th, 2004

Hi,
SFO installed fine on all other computers on the same LAN.
I try everything to install this one, it stops when the
installation status bar goes half way across the screen
when it tries to install the MSDE sp3s. I tried to
disable as many as other prosesses running in the
backgroud, but had no luck. I also tried to install the
MSDE by it self, and still dosen't work. The installation
does not freeze the computer, but it just hang there. I
beleive the "sqlrdis.exe" is the process is running in
the backgroud to distribute the MSDE.
Thanks,
Mike

Mike:

The only irregularity I've seen when the install of the MSDE blows up is if
the PC's version of MDAC is suspect to begin with. I've worked around it in
the past by manually installing MDAC (2.71 or better) first, rebooting, and
then trying the SFO client installation again. Hopefully this will solve
your problem.

Hi Dave,
Thanks for the reply.
I had already tried reinstall MDAC several times already. It dosen't seems to help.

Mike;

How's the horsepower of the PC in question? I know the install of the MSDE
portion can take forever on some slower machines and the worst part is that
the installation screen disappears for a while during the switch between
installation routines. You will see no activity on the screen but the hard
drive will be churning. If this is what you are seeing, then let it go, go
grab a really big coffee and check it when you get back.

If not the above, then what version of Windows and Outlook are you running?
Does this PC currently have (or has it ever had) the SQL Client tools or
components installed? There may be some old registry values kicking around
that are confusing SQL. Also ensure that you are cleaning up the PC
properly after each failed installation of the SFO client (there are TK
articles that describe the details of what to delete).

Cheers, Dave.
