- Update Guide Wanted
- Posted by news.microsoft.com on May 5th, 2008
Hi, I'm searching more guides/documentation about upgrading CRM 3 to CRM 4,
my "dream" scenario is to leave the old CRM 3 installation untouched (SQL
2005 without SP and CRM Server on Virtual Machine) for rollback, also on
PartnerSource I can't find some more checklist/guide.
Thanks

Use the Redeployment Wizard in CRM 3.0 to create a new environment to upgrade
from 3.0 to 4.0.
Make sure that you create a new OU in AD for the new security groups, then
you dont have to 'map' the users in the redeployment wizard.

We don't have a writeup of it yet. But here's how we approached it for
upgrading several of our clients:
1. Redeploy v3.0 to another environment; ensure that it doesn't impact your
production CRM v3.0; besure to review the Redeployment guide on the v3.0
Server CD or download;
2. Validate that your redeployment works and if so, upgrade the v3.0
redeployment to v4.0; review the v4.0 Implementation Guide on Upgrading.
Good luck.

Hi, Thank you. I tryed today this way and it work fine if I install the
English Version of CRM 3.0 after preparing the Db with the redeployment
tool. But I would install CRM in German, and here the component check say
that the database are not the right Version (ERROR = cannot continue) , in
English it was only a WARNING (I could continue) !
Did you have an idea ?
Thanks

I have not tested redeploying different language version, only US version,
maybe it is a bug. I would check with CRM Support team on this one.
Good luck.

Hallo Frank, Thanks for your help, I tested now all in English, but late in
the update progress also English don't work, perhaps you have also an idea
about this error message :
First :
Action Microsoft.Crm.Setup.Server.InstallDatabaseAction failed.Subquery
returned more than 1 value. This is not permitted when the subquery follows
=, !=, <, <=, >,>= or when the subquery is used as an expression. The
statement has been terminated.
Second:
Action Microsoft.Crm.Setup.Server.InstallDatabaseAction failed.There is
already an object named 'AttributeTypes' in the database.
Thanks.

Try a complete UN-install of any CRM components (Databases, Redeploment
Program, etc.) on the NEW redeployment envionrment so it doesn't impact the
production envionrment.
Then try the 3.0 redeployment process again using all English version that
match with your production.
Good luck.
