What Experience Installing CRM on SBS2003?
Posted by Roger on May 20th, 2004

Hello All, I searched this discussion and found some
recent posts on using SBS with CRM.
I am hesitant to install CRM on SBS2003 as there are
already a lot of services running on SBS i.e. Exchange
Server, SQL Server, ISA Server among others.
CRM Implementation guide recommends CRM on separate
servers with SQL and Exchange on separate servers except
in the instance of SBS. I wonder what the client
threshold is for SBS?
What hardware are you running with CRM on SBS? e.g. ram,
processor(s), hdd
I like SBS 2003 and getting to know CRM and want to offer
the best of both without any issues.
Any tips, tricks or info on this are appreciated!
Roger

We have installed CRM 1.2 on SBS2003Prem

It runs ok, but pretty slow. I'd definately recommend you go Dual CPU, even
if it is 2x slower vs 1x faster... You need a ton of RAM 1GB or more I would
recommend.

Remember when you are installing it to create a new virtual direcoty on the
IIS, as you don't want it overwritting Workplace or company web sites.

Cheers

Luke

Here is the section from the CRM Implementation Guide that explains about running CRM v1.2 on SBS 2003. Hope it helps

Actually the link seems to point to installing CRM on SBS2000.

Would there be one for SBS2003?

Luke and Michael, thanks for the replies and as I
surmised that running CRM on SBS2003 Prem is resource and
hardware intensive. The implementation guide recommends 2
CPUs for CRM. I am running SBS2003 on SCSI striped set
and nearly 1.5GB ECC Ram and the Exchange Store, SQL take
up a lot of resources. I also used the /3GB on the boot
ini.
What size of businesses did you do the CRM/SBS2003 Prem
for?
Annual sales, users, type of business?
Later post looks like they did not create a virtual
directory and wiped out their company web site. Bummer.
Thanks again,
Roger
