Workflow Monitor - unable to cancel or restart Paused workflow

For some unknown reason, several workflows in various entites have become
Paused and wouldn't restart (system crashes, restarts?).

I have accessed from the Workflow Monitor and tried to Restart and Cancel -
but the Workflow stays in a Paused state. I have also tried opening up each
individual workflow and "jumping" and/or pausing and canceling from there.
No luck. I would prefer to have these cleared from my system.

Any suggestions?
