- AMD XP and Me
- Posted by Tony McCanless on July 16th, 2003
Okay ... I'm lost. What doesn't work on XP and what should we look closer
at?
His question was if an Athlon XP CPU (processor) would work with WinMe. The
confusion is in the name that AMD chose for the processor.

I just wonder how AMD was able to use the XP name without worrying about a
lawsuit. You know how Micro$oft is.

Hi Greg,
The USB drivers ... and most others, pertain to the motherboard and cards
equipped with the computer. This doesn't relate to this AMD processor. The
Athlon XP processors I have installed had no specific drivers for any OS.
This processor itself does not come with drivers. His question was if an
Athlon XP CPU would run with WinMe. If the motherboard will support it,
there are no drivers needed to make it happen ... in WinMe, Win98Se, Win2000
Pro, WinXP Pro.

I see. So, it's more to do with what the motherboard will support and
nothing to do with the OS. Good to know and makes sense.
