- deleting virus
- Posted by Skyman on March 2nd, 2004
I have a virus, W32.Beagle.A@MM, that cant be deleted cause it's being used
by windows. I managed to get to the dos prompt from the windows cd and
typed erase and the filename (go154o.exe) and it didn't show on the
directory. When I rebooted to windows it was still there. Can I delete
booting from the windows cd? Thanks in advance. Any help appreciated

You need to disable the virus by preventing it from being loaded by either
removing the entry form the registry using regedit or by unchecking the entry
on the Startup tab of MSConfig. Reboot and then delete the files.
Alternatively boot into Safe Mode which will prevent the virus being loaded
and you can then delete the unwanted files. Details of how to do this
including removal tools are posted on all major AV application vendor sites.
For example Symantec
(http://securityresponse.symantec.com...agle.a@mm.html)
and Symantec's Beagle removal tool
(http://securityresponse.symantec.com...gle@mm.removal
..tool.html).
