- Desktop Icons
- Posted by Jane on March 5th, 2004
Prior to reformatting my hard-drive I was able to right-click on desktop and select "Active Desktop" and then "Show Desktop Items" to hide the items on the desktop. Now when I select "Active Desktop" I only have 3 choices to select from: "Customise Desktop", "New Desktop Item" and "Show Web Content". How can I get my other choices back? I want to hide the icons on the desktop. Thanks. Jane.

Use the 3rd choice of Show Web Content.

Thanks Alan. That did restore the option I wanted - but now my desktop is only displaying white instead of my webshots art. Any other suggestions? I've gone into Control Panel and checked the settings and all looks good, but it's just not displaying it?? Jane.

Hi Jane.
You will have to supply more detail than that. What settings did you
check? What exactly do you have in the settings that "looks good"?
Sorry, I don't know much about Webshots (assuming you mean the spyware
application). I installed it 5 years ago for a trial and haven't
touched it since.

What happens when you choose "Customize Desktop"?
I use WebShots, but I don't use Active Desktop; and since I leave my desktop
icons showing, I don't have a solution. :-/ Sorry...
I'd be interested to hear how you resolve this though.

Webshots is photo's and artwork that can be downloaded free and used as screensavers and wallpaper on desktop. I display the artist my daughter and I are studying for the term. Hence I don't like the icons "interrupting" our picture. In control panel/display the correct options to display my webshots art work and screensaver is selected correctly, appearance has my colour scheme selected. It all looks like it should be ok and at start-up the selected wallpaper art is briefly displayed and then the white background comes up and stays there. Any ideas? Thanks. Jane.
