errors using windows update!!!!

Why not just answer the questions that I asked the last time you posted to
this NG?
<quote>This is an unfortunately common problem at the moment, and we've not
yet
been able to pin down the exact cause/solution.
Before we attempt a solution, therefore, I'd like to ask a few questions
1) Do you use Norton Software?
2) Do you use LiveUpdate - and if so, in automatic mode, or manual mode?
3) Is there a WININIT.INI file in your C:\Windows folder?
4) How much free space is there on your C: partition?
5) What is the space allocation for System Restore (System
Properties|Performance|File System|Hard Disk)
6) What is the actual space taken up by your C:\_Restore folder tree (It's
Hidden, and a System folder, so you'll need to enable viewing of these in
Folder Options)
7) Is there a WININIT.ERR file in the /Windows folder? - do the contents
consist of lines like
"ERROR: DELETE_FILE C:\Somefilename C:\_RESTORE\TEMP\Somefilename 0x20"
(please copy/paste a few of the earliest, and latest lines in your response)
7) are you running GoBack??

OK - now to the solution.....
If the WININIT.INI file exists, rename it to wininit.jnk.

From a command prompt, run the following command -

SCANREG /FIX

and click OK - Windows will reboot,

then see whether you get the message on a second reboot,

Post back your results, and we'll proceed from there.
