FAX on original equipment?
Posted by Valerie on March 4th, 2004

I have looked and looked and cannot find a fax on my
computer. IT is Compaq MV520 with Microsoft ME. I have
asked at several computer products stores for a fax
program, and they have all told me that I should have one
on my computer. I have looked at settings, control
panels, search, search on the drive with Microsoft Office
97, plus other "trails" I have followed. Can you advise
me on how to find out for sure -- and if I don't have
anything, how to attain it?

Thank you,
Valerie

There is no Fax prog included in WinMe.
Have a look at this site, you may be able
to get somthing out it.

This depends on the original poster having access to either a Win 98 or 98SE
CD.

Go control panel.
go software add.
go windows setup.
look into details in each group.
select what you want by checking.
select fax ;-)
have your cd ready.
after installation: reboot
go to printers and voila

Win Me has no built in fax option so your suggestion is not applicable.

There may be a very limited one included with Office97, at least there is
in Office2k and on. If there is, look in Office setup for it, other than
that, there is nothing included with ME, but perhaps something like Bitware
on a modem driver CD? The one included with Office is Symantec Fax Starter
Edition, a VERY stripped down version of WinFax, but functional.
