Only with Adaptec/Roxio DirectCD or equivalent program. If you just want to
burn to the CD without formatting (should work fine for backing up), you can
use any program and choose Create/Burn CD. You do not need to format a CD
unless you want to save files to it on the fly (say, save a Word document
directly to CD).
