Gnarly error at boot up
Posted by Craig Miller on September 6th, 2003

Hello:
Hoping someone can help me diagnose this error and offer
a fix. When I boot my Sony VAIO notebook running WinME,
part way through boot up the Windows ME splash screen
goes black, then I get a blue screen saying an error has
occurred. The error message is:

File Name: Ds1(01) + 0000D9C2 Error: 0E : 0028 : FF0A8AE2

At this point, my machine is hung and CTRL+ALT+DEL does
not work. If I do a hard reboot at this point, I can load
into Safe Mode, but my USB port appears dead, so my USB
CDROM and floppy drives don't work.

Any ideas on source of problem &/or how to fix this? I'd
really appreciate a reply to my email (crm0627@yahoo.com)
as well as to the newsgroup.

Thanks a lot,
-Craig

The clue - ds1 - *maybe* related to a Yamaha DS1 sound driver on your note
book?

As you can boot into Safe Mode, take a look in Device Manager for any
conflicts (particularly with the sound card) and if necessary 'Remove' all
sound card devices and let WinMe redetect and re-install the drivers.

BUT before you go down that path, it might be worth trying a System Restore
first (halfway down the Help Centre page), just to see if that will clear
the problem.

You're welcome Craig and thanks for the feedback. To be fair, an
'intelligent guess', as I don't have access to a Sony notebook. But as I
said, the clue was 'ds1' and a Google search led me to Yamaha DS1.

As a matter of interest, did you try the SR option? - I just wondered (for
future reference) if that method works to restore a 'corrupted' sound driver
