Line-in problem!
Posted by Mark Philpott on March 1st, 2004

Hello,
Can anyone shine a little light on a problem I'm having?
Here goes...
I was trying to put some tracks from a cassette tape onto
my PC in MP3 form. To do this I used MusicMatch Jukebox.
I took a line out from the hi fi's headphone socket into
the PC's Line In. When I played the tape I could hear it
through the PC speakers so that part of it works.
However, when I tried to record, it all seemed okay and
went thru the motions, but when I tried to playback the
newly created MP3 all I got was silence, no matter what
application I tried to play it thru!
In theory, it should have worked and I can't understand
why it hasn't! I have the Line In selected as the
recording source and have it set up right on the windows
Volume Control. It IS in the Line In and NOT the Mic In!
I'm utterly perplexed!
I have Windows Me and a Creative Soundblaster PCI128
card. I HAVE done the cassette to MP3 successfully once
before, but it was a long time ago and I've obviously
become dumber with age!
Does anyone have any suggestions to help me with my plight?
Thank you,
Mark

Right-Click on the SPEAKER that would normally be on your taskbar. Select
"Open Volume Controls", then click on Options, then Properties, then click
to select the RECORDING menu. There, make sure your Line-IN has a
checkmark. Then make sure that the Line-IN in the main "Play Control" menu
is NOT muted.

Hope this helps!
