Hi Mike,
Don't know if you remember me, but a few months ago I asked in a ng about
Windows ME, and you were kind enough to respond. I used ME on my laptop, and
had very little trouble, until the darn thing died. New motherboard was the
diagnoses, soooooo - - - a new laptop was in order. I told the firm to leave
the hard drive empty, which upset them no end and saved me some cash. I
decided to stay with ME due to printer/scanner/camera issues with XP. After
a couple of months of ME on this flash hardware here is the verdict. I just
gotta tell you about it!
Machine is a 1.7 Gb with 256 Mb RAM. 20 Gb hard drive, DVD drive & CD
writer. OS is Windows ME patched with everything available from the update
site. It runs Office 2002, various games, and the internet of course. To
date I have had almost no, repeat no, trouble with the OS that is supposed
to be one of the worst around according to what I read on the Internet. My
experience is otherwise. I use Regcleaner and Norton's Disk Dr every week,
and clean the rubbish off the drive at the same time. The only thing it
doesn't like is to be hibernated too many times in a row, because that's not
the same as a reboot, and ME appreciates a courtesy reboot every so often. I
accept that and it's no problem.
So there's my take on ME. Sure, it's got it's limitations and faults, but my
personal experience with it has been completely satisfactory for the past
few months. I use the laptop daily, and it works hard a lot of the time.
Sure, I would like to go to XP - I even have a retail copy of it I purchased
for this machine, but the afore mentioned issues with the hardware
discouraged me. ME users out there - be encouraged.
