- Need help with reinstalling WinME
- Posted by Katy on March 1st, 2004
Can anyone help me with a reinstall that is stopped by the following error
message:
"Error: NAV Auto-protect unable to start! Symevnt.386 is not loaded. You
may need to reinstall Norton Antivirus to correct the problem. Press any
key.."
I would like to know some way to uninstall the whole SystemWorks 2004 if
it's possible with only being able to access Control Panel Add/Remove in
safe mode? It isn't letting me do uninstall in safe mode but is there some
uninstall file I could use?
If the only alternative is to seek out & delete all the NAV or Symantec
files in registry, please don't hesitate to recommend that either. So far
that is all I can think of doing.
Thanks in advance for ANY help! katy

Try booting ME with F8 - Step-by-Step confirmation to load OS with all but
that Symevnt.386 service.
If you still have a no-go, boot with F8-bootlog option until failure ensues.
Reboot. Don't boot to safe mode (which overwrites the previous bootlog.txt
file in root). Instead, use the Start-Diskette, minimal mode, and read/edit
the bootlog.txt file (search for the string "fail"). Something else than
Symevnt.386 is failing to load.

Thanks Pete! It did indeed work to bypass the Norton files on step by step
and then the reinstall was able to continue and complete and even with no
more Norton errors.
Thanks soooooo much!
