- New AdAware Update - 10 pm EST
- Posted by Heather on February 26th, 2004
I hope I have the blasted date right......grin.
Reference Number : 01R262 25.02.2004
There......today's date....just lucked into it.
Hey......watch out for Netsky worm. I am receiving quite a few copies and
had to walk a savvy neighbour thru removing it (Norton didn't catch it and
was not up to date)......this one is sneaky.
Cheers......Figgs

Thanks figgs.....will get the Adaware in a minute. I checked my NAV defs
and there are, at least, three different variations of the Netsky worm
amongst them, but, you DID say your neighbor was 'not up to date.'
Heirloom, old and no 'u' in neighbor

Today's update, that I just got for NAV, has another variation of Netsky
added.

Well......this 'savvy' neighbour also had 5 trojans and a sh**load of
spyware......by the time he called me he had downloaded an anti-trojan trial
and AdAware......I then asked him to go into Windows Explorer and check TIF
and TEMP........holy cow!!!! No wonder his computer was slow.....thousands.
Plus he thought he had gotten rid of all the malware.....NOT.
He couldn't bring up the Grisoft website, but did manage to get Trend
Housecall......Netsky.B. He was quite surprised. I wasn't. He now has
instructions to download Zone Alarm as well. In fact, I better send him all
the links. I told him to download Stinger as it claims to get rid of
Netsky too. I may download it myself and have it there as a just in case.
Seems my so-called computer savvy neighbours are not up on malware. Plus
they all have several people using their computers.
I am amazed at this. He is a very bright young lad.....and he taught me
some stuff a few years ago. Looks like this ole tortoise passed the
hare.....(don't go there, grin).
Cheers......Figgs, who knows how to spell neighbour properly.....not to
mention colour, humour and so on. Yanks!! (snicker)

Well..this Yank, a Texan turned Californian, worse yet, keeps her weapons
loaded and ready. ;-) I download all the cures to a special folder on my
hard drive and keep them updated daily, just in case something prevents me
from having access to the Internet, or a necessary website, to get the
removal tool. This way, at least with it on my hard drive, I have a loaded
weapon with a Silver bullet in the chamber at all times. ;-))
