No Disc space
Posted by GREG on July 16th, 2003

Hello.
I am having trouble trying to reinstall ViaVice, an add on
to Loutus. I use 2 hard dru=ives and have installed and
unstalled on both machines.

Now when I try to install VV I get a message saying " Not
wnough disc space even though both drives have 8 gugs plus
free and it's a small program.

Any ideas?

Also can I just reformat one of my drives and nit touch
the other?

Thanks

Yes, you can format one drive and not the other. You can only format your C
drive from a floppy boot disk.

You may want to contact ViaVoice's Support. The fact that it's a small
program isn't the whole issue, maybe. I don't know the program, but maybe it
wants to allocate so much for reserve for its audio files while editing.
Also, the version and whether it's compatible with WinMe might be a
consideration. Make sure you're installing to the correct drive.

This is suggestive of a VM problem, rather than a disk-space problem - check
that you have Windows controlling Virtual Memory in
SystemProperties|Performance|Virtual Memory

Could be ... good idea ... I didn't think of that ..., but I've also seen
older programs do this because it didn't know how to interpret the size of
the hard drive ... being much larger than expected ... or the size of memory
or lack of a certain size of Extended or Expanded Memory. I had one older
program that would not install at all ... and that was the installation
error message ... Insufficient Disk Space. It followed with the message of
required space ... something like 2475K ... and space on disk 15329938K ...
and then suggested ways to clear up space to try again. So, when I saw this
post, that's what I thought of.

Without knowing exactly what version of the program it is ... and I'm not
really familiar with that program anyway ... it's hard to say.
