Promise Ultra tx2 ata100

I have installed this card into my Win ME box and it seems to be working
fine. But I have a couple of questions for experienced users:

1) should I disable the onboard IDE controllers, as everything is plugged
into it (2 CDs, Zip, HD)?
2) now that I have the thing plugged in and working, how can I go about
getting my system to see all 160gb of my hard disk?
2) a) I ghosted over my old 5GB to it, and it has about 7GB today
2) b) It has FAT32 as its file system
3) I am going to have to assume that I can't run scandisk successfully until
my operating system sees all 160gb.... can I?
3) a) C'mon, by now there has to be something better than MS Scandisk -
right?

Thanks in advance,

Mr. (SOL) Curious

OK - let's try and take this one step at a time (my brain won't run any
more)

1) there's not really any need - but it may make booting marginally faster -
Make sure that you remove all drivers while in Safe Mode, after disabling
the IDE in BIOS

2) Since you seem to have only a 7GB partition, there's nothing that Windows
can do for you.
Windows does NOT contain a partition manager - only a partition setup tool
(FDISK) which is not capable of expanding partitions
2a/b) Use a proper Partition manager - favourites are BootItNG
(www.bootitng.com) or Partition Magic (www.powerquest.com) with my
preference being for the former (BING for short). It's cheaper, and you get
lifetime updates.
Either expand your existing partition, or create new ones to fit the spare
room. NOTE that Windows ME can only see partitions that are less than 137GB
in size - so you'll need to make sure that your disk is split in two anyhow.

Scandisk? there are a number of tools available that do much the same job (a
lot of them are merely flash front-ends to Windows Scandisk) - try using
Google to search for them (avoiding anything with the words 'norton' and/or
'symantec' in it <g>). I've only ever use ScanDisk personally - it does what
it says on the box!
