Reinstalled ME, Critical Updates show no updates
Posted by Ron on November 10th, 2003

I had to reinstall ME, and want to verify that I have all
the Critical updates installed. When I go to updates, it
states I don't need any. Is this because the registry
still contains info on these updates ? How do I go about
deleting all update information so I can re-apply the
Critical Updates ?

Ron,

If you reinstalled ME over itself and retain a backup copy of the
registry then that is why you are not being offered the updates.

First, check to see if the updates are listed in Add/Remove Programs in
the Control Panel. If they are, remove them by clicking the Add/Remove
button. If not, look in the registry under this key :
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Active Setup\Installed Components

Click the + (plus) sign next to Installed Components , click on the
folders underneath it. In the right pane are the "IsInstalled" data for
each update. If they show as 0x0000001 (1) then edit each one
individually to show as 0x00000000 (0). 1 is the data for the update
showing as installed, 0 is the data for it not showing as installed.
Double click the "IsInstalled" name to modify the data.

Before editing the registry please read this :

and Windows Me
