SCAN DISK PROBLEM
Posted by cmg on August 26th, 2003

Hi,

Have been running Windows ME for the past 2 years and have
never had any problems running scan disk until this week.
I'm getting the message that some program keeps writing to
the hard drive. I've done everything that I've always
done in the past: shut down all program except explorer
and sys tray, turned-off automatic updates and turned off
screen saver.

The only new "program" I downloaded recently was an update
to MacAfee virus scan. When I did the update it required
me to download "Active X Agent". I'm not even sure what
this is.

Any suggestions out there?

Thanks!

For the Scandisk problem,
Get the free ScanDefrag. It is the most advanced disk maintenance
program there is. It runs Disk Cleanup, ScanDisk, and Disk
Defragmenter. It's easy to setup and use, and it can deal with
problems like "drive's contents have changed: restarting...".
Get it and read about all the options it has that you can use.

It is not unusual to see Defrag restart a number of times.
It is , however, unusual to see ScanDisk restart.
This is why I suggest starting it at bedtime and letting it run overnight.

Hi- I am having this same problem, with scandisk, and it
only just started yesterday, and Norton Internet Security
did not find anything wrong. I know there is not supposed
to be anything that is constantly accessing the hard
drive, like it is.
If you find out what is going on here, please let me know.
