- Trouble with ME after running Adaware 6.0
- Posted by Larry H. on March 6th, 2004
I have downloaded and executed Adaware 6.0 and removed
(after quarantining) approx. 30 items. After re-boot, my
display resolution has been changed, no wallpaper, no
screensaver, etc. Norton Anti-virus will not run saying
that hte NAV...32.exe has a problem in it. Most of my
other programs will run, but usually only once per re-
boot.
I have gone back and RESTORED the quarantined items and
continue to get the same results.
cna anyohne help with this situation ? I would certainly
appreciate all the help I can get, especially if it does
not require reloading Windows ME.
I have been able to chantge the screen resolution,, etc.
that disappeared., but that seems to be all that will
stay corrected.
Thanks,
Larry H.

Sometimes adware are so connected to the operating system that removing the
adware remove some files that operating system needs to run properly.
As with resolution problem, you can restore wallpaper and screensaver.
Uninstall and reinstall Norton AV.
If you continue to get the problems, Reinstall Windows on top of itself. You
will not lose data. Boot up with your Windows CD. If not bootable, boot to
DOS with CD ROM support. If you don't have such boot disk, get one from
www.bootdisk.com. While in DOS, put in your Windows CD. Type "setup" or
"E:\setup" without the quotes.
If you don't have the Windows CD, the system files may be in the CABS
folder. From a:> type "c:\windows\options\cabs\setup" without the quotes and
hit ENTER.

IF you need to reinstall ME (and there should be no need to!!) - use the
instructions here
http://www.btinternet.com/~winnoel/reinME.htm
Avoid reinstalling from the CD if at all possible!

When you say you have restored the files, do you mean you
have used adaware to restore them, or have you used ME's
system restore to go back to an earlier resore point? If
you have not used windows restore, go to accessories,
system tools, restore and go back to a date before you
deleted the files.
