Uninstall IE6 Update
Posted by Keith Young on January 13th, 2004

Have been having many problems with installing the Internet Explorer update
on Windows ME. I have tried reinstalling as well as using all three of Jim
Byrd's 3 recommendations to fix (found in previous postings in this group).
I also tried the fix according the the MS Knowledge Base article concerning
"Error Message: Windows Could Not Upgrade the File %1 from %2 %1: %2" since
I was also initially having this problem (I do not have a WININIT.INI file
on my computer). No luck with any of these

I think that enogh of time has been taken trying to fix this problem. I
would like to just uninstall IE6 and reinstall IE5 since I never had any
problems with IE5. But, apparently MS has not provided a way to do this on
WINME. I saw the KB article outlining how to do it on Windows XP but that
does not help me. In addition the "Add/Remove Programs" does not provide a
way

Can anyone tell me how to uninstall IE6 on WINME? Everything on my computer
seems to be running fine except IE6 and Outlook Express. I have downloaded
the IE5 setup files but it will not allow me to install it over IE6.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Keith

I should also mention that I did find Microsoft Knowledge Base Article -
293907 and tried the suggestions here without success (the "restore to
Previous Config ..." option was not available and the "repair tool " did not
work.

Would it be best to reformat my hard drive and reinstall WINME??

Keith,
You can use IE Radicator to remove IE

http://www.litepc.com/ieradicator.html

Make sure you have downloaded the IE5 setup files first, but not loaded.
Backup your Favorites folder.
