- Uninstall XP Pro and NOT RESTORE WinME (dual-boot system)
- Posted by Lorne on February 11th, 2004
Display adapter and other problems require uninstalling XP Pro from a
dual-boot system. Believe it or not, ME works OK and want to keep as only OS
(for now).
(1) OS installations: Win ME on C:\ and Win XP Pro on D:\.
(2) Data files on D:\, re-formatting D:\ not an option.
(3) Uninstalling XP Pro from a Command Prompt gives "registry" access error
(4) C:\ & D:\ both formatted FAT32
KB314052 says to remove the following files: boot.ini, Ntbootdd.sys,
Ntdetect.com, NTLDR.
Question: How do I edit these files to restore single boot (ME only) system?
BTW, can't do this in XP as display adapter goes into "infinite loop" and XP
stops working.
Thanks in advance for help (also posted in XP General Newsgroup)

Using a Win Me boot floppy boot to DOS and then use the command:
SYS C:
This should then allow the system to boot to Win Me after which you can delete
the XP files.

Lorne,
Thanks for the feedback and I'm pleased to read you've now got your system
booting in the way you want.
Cheers,
Mike M
