Virues are running amuck-how do you?

"NOT" click on one that has come into your mailbox that is
virus laden with no attachment-Norton is not picking up
on these, btw. :<()

Unless the payload is in HTML or in the subject, its spam and not a "virus".

Norton is not picking up the email as a virus because it is NOT a virus.

Virus or not.......any time you don't want your email to automatically open,
do the following......

Go to View/Layout and take the tick mark out of 'Show Preview Pane'. This
means you have to double click on an email to open it. Just highlight it
(one click) and hit Delete and it will be gone without opening.

Cheers.....Heather

That's just the problem. Several really nasty ones out
there ARE html. A clue is that the file size will usually
be 143k, regardless of the subject line. If you even LOOK
at it it starts a file download.

If email is 143K then it has an attachment and is most likely Swen or Klez.

If the email application does not indicate that it has an attachmnet and is 143K then it is
a broken version.

If you merely look at the at a HTML email message that has an attachment and it tries to
auto-execute then you need to patch your system becuase the infector is exploiting a HTML
vulnerability. Please read the following..

As David said.......if they are 143 kb or so.........they are usually Swen
(fake MS emails) and they are NOT HTML. I see you are using OE 5.5. Why
not update to version 6 as it is much safer.

There have only been two truly HTML virus emails that I can recall for a
long while.....Bugbear being one. Kakworm was another. So there are not a
lot of 'really nasty ones' out there. And your antivirus program should be
able to handle it.......assuming that you are using one. If not, then you
ARE asking for trouble.
