Win ME Hangs
Posted by vameo on September 23rd, 2003

Windows ME sporadically hangs on start-up. When I select Ctrl/Alt/Delete it
indicates that some random program is "not responding" when cancel is
selected the system loads normally. I have run Spy Bot S&D, AdAware, AVG,
EZ trust thinking that somehow a beastie had got into the system. Nothing
has been detected. I can't use System Restore as I don't know when it
started as is was only occasionally hanging but it is now becoming more
frequent. I have searched various sites for a solution but it is hard to
pinpoint because of it's randomness. Any suggestions as to where to look
would be most appreciated. Thanks in advance.

If you suspect Spyware, although none has ever been confirmed to have
disabled
System Restore, you may run "Hijack This", since you have run SpyBot and
Ad-aware.
'HJT' will generate a system snapshot "scan log" - while the "startup log",
shows all
starting items, easily viewed in wordpad.

Thanks siljaline, I'll give it a try!
