- Win ME will not boot
- Posted by MikeT on February 4th, 2004
When putting computer on the message appears to continue
in one of four modes Normal, Safe , etc but recommending
Safe Mode. At the bottom of the screen also the options to
use F5 or Shift +F8.
Whatever option is choosen, on the next screen the
following message:
"Error of protecting Windows. Restart your computer.
System stopped."
Then it just freezes.
Can somebody please help?

Mike,
Try these:
A registry repair:
Boot from a startup disk and at the prompt type:
scanreg /fix (note the space between g and /)
Press enter, wait for the process to finish and reboot WITHOUT the disk.
If this doesn't work, try a registry restore:
Again, boot from a startup disk, and at the prompt type:
scanreg /restore (note the space between g and /)
Enter. Select a date prior to the problem and let the process finish.
Reboot WITHOUT the disk.
Any luck?
