- win ME or win2000?
- Posted by harami on March 5th, 2004
i'm considering upgrading my old computer with windows95,
and have been offered winME or win2000 at knock-down
prices. i've been recommended win2000 because it "hardly
ever crashes" compared to win98.
which should i choose? i want an operating system that
isnt going to crash all the time!

The first good question is whether or not the PC exceeds the minimum
standards for either operating system - many Windows 95 PCs do not.

I agree with Richard - check the hardware specs carefully. And
Windows 2000 is more demanding in that regard than Windows Me.
Also check what you plan on doing with the computer in terms of
application programs and also hardware accessories that you want to
install.
Windows 2000 is a business oriented operating system whose strengths
are in the areas of networking and security. On the other hand, it
is probably not the best choice for those whose interests are more
oriented towards game playing, multimedia applications, and the
Internet. And both hardware and application program compatibility are
more likely to be an issue with Windows 2000 than with Windows Me.
Good luck
