Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file.
You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the
item.
Anybody have a suggestion where I should look.

Run "control.exe" (no quotes) from your Run > Dialog Box.
If no joy, run "Hijack This" - info and download here:

No - not just the control panel. Cannot open any file from
the desktop or the start button.

I appreciate your help, but I'm sorry I don't understand
your reply. Can you clarify?

Mine is the control panel and some desktop buttons, I do
have adware and have run it, but when I put control.exe
in my run box i get not a valid file may be damaged.
still working on it, any more suggestions, also went to
the hijack this section and because I cannot access
anything in my control panel I cannot complete the steps
necessary for this type of repair.
thanks for all
