- Windows ME update
- Posted by Delbert Waltrip on February 4th, 2004
I have tried numerous time to use the windows update to get the new security
updates. It tells me it will update Internet Explorer. After each time I
tell it to continue the installation, it comes back with a window that says
"Setup was unable to install all the components. Please close all
applications and try running setup again." The last time I tried, I went
into MSCONFIG and turned off all of the programs in the startup section and
I still had the same problem. Has anyone had this problem and, if so, how
did you solve it???????
TIA

To complete install of IE6 SP1 in Windows ME, temporarily empty the
Uninstall sub-folder in Internet Explorer folder.

indicator shows it is fully installed, but the box does
not disappear and after rebooting I still have an update
to do. It is presently sitting on my pc for the last 40
mins without any progress. I tried disabling my firewall
for 5 minutes and it made no difference. BTW, each time
installation took over two hours to complete the indicator
line. Maybe I should try back in a week when MSN has it
configured properly? Getting pretty frustrating.

Do you have AdAware and/or Spybot installed ? Advise you to scan the
system for parasites as they will interfere with any patch for IE.
Do you Have Parasites?
http://www.aumha.org/a/noads.htm
Anti-Parasite Quick-Fix
http://www.aumha.org/a/parasite.php#quickfix
If you are referring the last cumulative patch that came out Feb.2nd,
try a direct download from here :
Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 6 Service Pack 1
(KB832894)
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en
Before downloading and installing, temporarily disable the installed
antivirus program if you are using Norton, McAfee, or PC-cillin. Close
IE before installing the patch. Clear the Temp Internet Files and
History, also. Now install it. Reenable your AV after the required
rebooting.
