Windows/Temp Directory Advice
Posted by Ron on February 3rd, 2004

Can I assume anything in the Windows/Temp directory can be
safely deleted? The files look quite old and I assume the
are placed there during software update/installation, but
don't get removed. For example there are NAV files from
2002, OfficeHotFix, _ISTMP1.DIR, sr1patch, etc. type
folders. Any advice is appreciated, please.
Thanks.

Ron,

The entire contents of the Windows Temp folder, by default C:\Windows\Temp,
can be deleted but FIRST it is important to reboot as the folder is sometimes
used to contain files needed to complete a software upgrade or installation
that is only completed on rebooting the system. So reboot and then clear the
folder and any sub-folders it might contain.

They are safe to remove, but best do it after a reboot.

Ron,
You can let a built-in utility do it for you:
Start - Programs - Accessories - System tools - Disk cleanup
