- is xp worth the upgrade?
- Posted by brianto on February 25th, 2004
I have been using Windows me for the past 3 years and
have had only a few system crashes, nothing above the
ordinary anyway. But everything is now geared towards
windows xp. Is it worth the £90 upgrade fee and would i
benefit much with it?. I have found that windows me was a
great upgrade to 98 but should i upgrade again?

I plan to. You will find XP to be much more stable than Win Me. I would wait
until the SP2 comes out in mid summer though.

The first thing to worry about is whether the hardware can support it - make
sure of that before spending hard-earned (presumably) cash on the CD!!!
Look here, and download the compatibility checker - it'll take a while, but
it's a lot better that than buying the OS, and then finding that you can't
run it!

I know mine can take it. Just built it a few weeks ago with all new XP
compatible hardware.

Still worth running the compatibility checker over it though - it's amazing
what some people claim as 'XP compatible'!

I'm not going to download a 50 MB file but on this page
http://www.pcpitstop.com/xpready/default.asp you can test your machine
without such a download and my machine passed with flying colors.
