- Age of Empires Gold error
- Posted by Sudz on January 15th, 2006
I just bought a brand new computer with Windows XP Media Edition installed on
it. When I installed Age of Empires Gold and tried to start a multiplayer
game via TCP/IP with DirectPlay, it tells me "Unable to create game. For
TCP/IP games, you may need to connect to the internet before starting Age of
Empires." I don't understand this, I can connect to the internet just
fine!?!?!? Why doesn't AoE seem to comprehend that I have full internet
access and TCP/IP compatibility?

Hi
Have you set permission for the game to connect through
your firewall

Hi Chas... yes, I both made an exception for it and, when that didn't
work, I turned off the firewall completely to make sure that wasn't an issue.
Since I'm only trying to play between two computers within my house over my
LAN, I wasn't even sure that it should need to get out to the internet
anyway. I have both computers using a static IP address though assigned
originally by my router (a Netgear model WGR614,if that means anything), but
let me know if I should just go DHCP.
Thanks for your help though, I do appreciate any insight you can offer or
troubleshooting advice you can give!
