- Black & White channels
- Posted by M-square on October 29th, 2005
I hooked my MCE PC to the TV antenna and it worked fine initially. Then 2
weeks later, the channels became Black and White. Some of them have colors
but the channels flicker all the time. I asked the cable company to check the
signals and it seems fine.
I have rescanned the channels many times and still cannot solve the problem.
Is there a problem with the video driver? Does anyone know how to fix this?
Thanks

More likely there is a hardware problem with your tuner card. But
verify that the "color" control on the tuner card is not turned down all
the way.

If you are using S-Video and TV as your display then I suspect a loose or
defective S-Video cable.

I am not sure how to even adjust the 'color' control of the tuner card. Do
you know where I can try? FYI, I am connecting the tuner card directly to the
antenna, not using a set top box or S-video cable... do you also know if
there is a place where we can 'fine-tune' tv channels?
Thanks!

If you play a DVD in MCE do you have a color problem? If yes then it is not
a tuner problem if no then it is a tuner card or driver problem. Depending
on which type of problem it is please answer the following?
Tuner Problem
What Make and model of tuner card do you have?
Have you downloaded the latest MCE driver from you tuner cards manufacturer
Website?
Not a tuner problem
What Make and Model of Graphics card do you have? Have you also downloaded
the latest driver from the NVIDIA, Intel, or ATI Website for this care?
What kind of display are you using over what interface?
What DVD Decoder are you using?

Some of the tuner cards have "controls"
(brightness-contrast-color-tint), others don't. Since you have not even
told us what the tuner card is .....
I'm unaware of any fine-tuning controls, at least not without a hack of
some sort.
