Can't change aspect ratio in Media Center
Posted by emm on May 7th, 2008

Media Center won't use all the space on my new wide-screen (22") monitor.
There's 1.5 inches of unused screen on either side of the image when I'm
watching video in Media Center. So if I'm watching something in letterbox,
rather than filling or nearly filling my screen, it's a letterbox within a
square (within a wide screen). To be clear, the welcome page in Media Center
does fill the screen. It's just the TV or DVD image that won't.

When I try to adjust display properties in MC (settings>general>appearance),
I get sent to a non-interactive Web page with instructions that show how it
should work, but doesn't for me.

When I re-run Media Center, the wizard takes me through TV signal and
Internet setup and that's ALL. No display settings.

I tried adjusting the display in Media Player with tech support, but that
had no effect.

The computer is an HP MCE M270N purchased in 2003. The monitor is an HPw2207.

I hope someone can help me figure this out? I've spent several hours with HP
tech support, so it'll have to be someone extra smart.

Thank you!

I found that in MC display settings that If I never let the Wizard
automatically do anything I eventually got to an aspect ratio wizard and
display which let me change the aspect ratio.
