- Can't connect to xbox (original) extender
- Posted by TPK on March 2nd, 2006
Well, after about 6 hours straight, I finally figured out that I needed help.
Here's my problem...running MCE 2005 and set up Xbox 360 as an extender,
working great. I then decide to set up original xbox as another extender in
basement several days ago. Wasn't the easiest but had it up and running as
well. Today, for stupid reasons, I decided to remove and reinstall the
original xbox as an extender. Bad move. Now, I can't get MCE pc to find
extender in basement. As required, put extender cd in xbox, gave me 8 digit
key ran up stairs to pc, entered key, got "verifying key" then "connecting to
extender" then "can't find extender" Did this about 10 to 15 times with
different key codes generated.
I did make sure that xbox extender was on network as I allowed it to find
IP, etc. automatically. It finished and stated that it was connected to Xbox
Live. Still can not find or connect with PC. I don't know what has changed
since the other day it was working. By the way, the Xbox 360 is still
working perfectly as extender.
If this helps, I tried to ping the problem xbox but was not succesful.
Firewall, anti virus all off while trying to connect. X box sees network but
network doesn't see xbox??? I'll bet that it is going to be something
simple, but I'm not getting it.
Any help will be greatly appreciated

This happened to me once. Not sure if you have tried this.
Go to the xbox memory files and delete those with the MCE logo. Then turn it
off and restart the xbox setup. If you still see the file when you restart
the xbox delete again and unplug the power for the xbox ....
It worked for me ...

Thanks for the really quick response. Just tried your idea and unfortunately
there were no MCE logo files in memory. I've got to be missing something as
it worked before. I should mention I do have the latest updates for both the
mce pc and extender

How do you connect? Adapter or Wired?
if so what MAC ID shows on your router the adapter
or the Xbox.

as for the mce logo (the green with the windows icon) should be there, the
xtender save the setup in the hard drive. That may be part of the problem...

Right, probably should have mention that I am wired connect.
MAC address for xbox 00-50-F2-1D-70-C4
IP address for xbox 192.168.2.189
IP address for 360 192.168.2.149
MAC address for 360 00-12-5A-54-9D-AC
Hope this helps

To rule out physical network problems I suggest that you try swapping over the
Xbox & Xbox 360.

Ok, thanks very much for the suggestions and help. I have no idea why
(because nothing worked) but it is up and running. About 2:30 AM I said
"that's it, I quit" and rebooted pc. When I got up this morning, ALL
extenders were working as perfectly as possible. Must be the Microsoft
fairy.......
Thanks again and until next time (problem), take care
