- Create a DVD
- Posted by James on May 4th, 2006
Hello NG,
I just bought a new computer with Media Center and last night I recorded
part of a news story about our town and I want to be able to make a DVD of
just the news story. I tried to use Windows Movie Maker, but that doesn't
seem to recognize the file format, it seems strange to me that windows
doesn't even recognize its own Media Center files.
I also tried to use the Make Muvee in media Center to make a DVD and again I
can only load .avi and .mpg file formats.
However, in the mean time could someone please tell me how to create a DVD
to send a copy to my parents back in VA.

If you have the Sonic Encoders installed, you'll have the option to make a
"video DVD" within Media Center. If you don't, then you can google for
SonicEncoders.msi and find it for download. You can also visit
www.TheGreenButton.com and download dCut and DVREdit if you want to edit the
file to remove commercials. You can also google for DVRMSToolbox, which can
extract the MPEG file from within the dvr-ms file (and optionally remove
commercials automagically).

Dana,
Thanks for the help, I read this yesterday and today I bought MyDVD from
Sonic, installed it and made a DVD for my parents. I'll be on my way to the
Post Office in a few minutes but I wanted to say thank you for your help
first.
