Creative Zen Portable Media Center 20 GB - Any other devices that are better(but same price)????
Posted by mbastadotcom@gmail.com on September 27th, 2005

Hey,

I found this "Creative Zen Portable Media Center 20 GB" on Amazon.de
for 270€ and was wondering if there are any better PMPs PMCs but for
the same price or cheaper??

- I want at least 20 GB
- Want to be able to watch movies and music videos on it (convert mpegs

and DivX to the playable codec too..unless it already can play divx and

mpegs...)

heres a Link:

This is a support group for Microsoft Windows Media Center Edition, you
could probably find a more pertinent newsgroup that would have insight into
your question.

Well, duh! Thanks for enlightening us. You're right.
Don't post a PMC question in the PMC newsgroup. That
would just be stupid! What WAS I thinking?????? :-)

Personally go for the new Zen Media Center that creative area releasing
based on their own design. Microsoft has bascically moved Portable Media
Centers to the coffins they belong.

Sorry, Ted. But it just annoyed me when the OP posted
such an ignorant & arrogant reply, in response to my
effort to help.

The OP asked a question specifically about PMCs, so I
*tried* to help by providing the location of the PMC
newsgroup.

Anyway, I'll try to heed your advice and lighten up.

Hi There,
i've got the Samsung YH-999 portable media center which i chose over the
creative because of a few reasons: the samsung is smaller, same height and
depth as an ipod; it has a kick-stand built into the device so it can stand
on a desk; it comes with an in-line remote control.

The creative is neat tho in that it has a slightly bigger screen, you can
buy a wireless remote control, you can also buy an inline remote control
which is backlit-lcd + FM radio and a wicked docking station. All those
extras cost though, which turned me off it in the end.

All together i've had a few minor problems with the platform, but also a few
really great moments (like being away on holiday and not having anything to
do for a few hours so i plugged the PMC into the hotel-tv and watched a
movie!)

Here's a link to Mark Solloway's review of the samsung:
http://www.salloway.org.uk/mceblog/S...rOverview.aspx

The last thing i'll say is that i use TMPGenc 3.1 to do a bit of custom
encoding (MediaPlayer10 handles all the rest)

matt.
