- Drive doesn't auto-play
- Posted by promusician on April 2nd, 2008
When I insert a CD or DVD in the appropriate drive, I don't get a box asking
me what I want to do i.e. play this...using...
This isn't too bad when I'm playing a CD, but when I want to play a DVD, I
can open the drive folder, but there's no auto start, just the different
video files, and I don't know which to click on to start a movie. Is there a
simple fix?

Hi Bob,
When I go to control panel, there's no 'autoplay' listed. Is it in a
subfolder like administrative tools? Thanks for your help.

For XP, Right click the CD/DVD drive. Select Properties>AutoPlay tab.

I've tried your work-around, but I still just get a Windows page that reads:
Files currently on the DVD, and under it a folder named 'VIDEO_TS. When I
open that folder, I get all the different files i.e. VOB etc. The only way I
can get a DVD to play is to have PowereDVD already open. This is
frustrating! I thank you for all your help, Bob, is there something else I
can do besides taking my PC to a service shop?
Thanks again

You're welcome promusician.
It's not a "work-around". It's the way to choose your autoplay settings.
Other then try a different disk, I don't have any more suggestions.
Good luck.
