- Dual ATI Theater 550 & Rollup 2
- Posted by Tomi V. on October 19th, 2005
Hi,
could anyone confirm this issue with the tuner card in the subject line in a
dual tuner config (using S-Video/Composite): After rollup 2, MCE live TV
starts stuttering/stops after viewing for about 20-40 secs when both tuners
are in use. Stuttering occurs when using the NVIDIA decoder and a complete
stop when using the Cyberlink decoder, I've tried with the latest versions
of both the deocders. The problem does not occur when using only one tuner
card. This did not happen before Rollup2. I'm using the .102 driver release
for the tuners. The graphics card on the system is an ATI Radeon 9600 with
Catalyst 5.10.
Thanks,
Tomi

I have one ATI Theater 550 and another tuner in my computer, everything
works fine after Rollup2 update. NO stuttering/stops.

I had a similar problem using Nvidia decoder with ATI and rollup 2.
Switched decoders to CyberLink PowerDVD and the problem was fixed.
Try CyberLink decoder and see if that works for you. I think the Nvidia
decoder worked a little smoother during skips and FF/RW operations, so
hopefully they'll have a newer version at some point.

It seems to problem, in my case at least, was down to the Radeon graphics
card and its drivers. I replaced it with an NVIDIA card and loaded the
latest MCE-specific drivers and everything works smoothly again. Before this
I already had tried other decoders including Cyberlink's. Now if I only
could find a fanless NVIDIA, seems to me they have those for the newer PCIE
but not for AGP. Thanks everyone who replied!

I spoke too soon. The stutter problem started happening again with the
NVIDIA graphics card :/

I'm using two 550 Pro tuner cards, BFG 6600GT, the nVidia 77.79 drivers and
the Purevideo 1.50 decoder with no problems. I just installed the 1.77
decoder and 81.85 video drivers today and still no stuttering.
The only difference in my configuration from yours is that I'm using analog
cable TV straight into both tuners through the coax connectors, whereas you
have a cable box doing the tuning for you.
