- Dual Tuner with different inputs
- Posted by Gibgo on November 2nd, 2005
Good day
I would like to know MCE2005 would work with the following configuration, on
a dual tuner card Hauppauge 500MCE.
First Signal:
From a conventional RF cable
Second Signal:
S-Video/Composite Cable from a VCR/Camera/Satellite/etc
Would MCE2005 be able to pick on both signals.
Thanks

So in other words MCE2005 can only be used for a tuner signal, you could not
capture camera footage or watch a satellite signal via a composit signal &
via RF (tuner) on the other, even though the hardware has a dual tuner system?
What about using single tuner tv cards or even a graphics card with Video In?
Sorry MCE2005 is new in South Africa I have limited knowledge on the system,
thanks for the assistance

No, it's one input or the other. You cannot have both at once within MCE not
least because it is tied to a single Programme Guide.

Correct but there are other applications beside MCE that do support the
different inputs on the PVR500 like GB-PVR, Media Portal & SageTV.

What is it that you actually want to do?

I want to be able to connect two types of input signals: first:television
channels via a conventional cable via a RF cable & second: from a Satellite
decoder via composite/S-Video cable.
Thanks

Sorry, can't be done with MCE. It's one or the other.

MANY OF US have been bitching about that for a long time. I expect we
will see this capability at some point in the future .... multiple
program guides and channel setups for multiple tuners.
Also, I have a "wish list" for the new-but-needs-reworked MCE keyboard:
1. Better Mouse, works like a trackpoint stick
2. Has to work as a general purpose USB keyboard/mouse (for accessing
the hardware bios setup screens, or even use with other OS')
3. Has to be smaller .... max width of 16"

Between the Leadtek PVR2000 TV Tuner & Hauppauge 500MCE or 150MCE which is a
better option for use with MCE2005?

I have rechecked the setup & there is a way to run both inputs via composite
cables running scart cable with RCA's on them or S-Video. Will it be possible
now with one type of input to see both the channels & do the rest of the
fasicinating stuff that MCE2005 has available?
Question: Do I need a tuner (tv card) to receive the input signals, as from
my understanding composite cables are a direct line & not working on a
frequency, hence no tuner required. Would I be able to use a Graphics card
with Video In facilities? Would MCE2005 work with this configuration?

The PVR500MCE is a dual analogue tuner that uses one PCI slot if that is more
suitable for you. I have no personal experience of any of these cards.

You won't give up will you:-) You could in theory use a STB with RF out that
mapped to a channel on the analogue tuner. You would however have poor picture
quality, mono sound, no programme guide & no way of changing channels on the
STB. Face it. You cannot do what you want with MCE. If it is so important to you
then choose another PVR like Media Portal or GB-PVR

Yes, for MCE you need an analogue TV capture card with on-board MPEG2 encoder.
You cannot use a graphics card with video-in for MCE.

But previously you had said that it would need to be one way or the other. Now
that it is one way via composite connection only would the system work?
I know very persistent, thats what gets my systems working & clients happy,
especially with frustrating BLUE SCREENS.
Thanks for the patience

Thanks, I will just post a new message for someone else to be of more
assistance.

No, no, no. Not through composite. Through RF. RF only & you can mix as many
inputs as you have RF modulators & free channels. BUT...no program guide, poor
