- hauppauge 150 & Vista Ultimate
- Posted by jdk on December 12th, 2007
I did a new install of 64-bit Vista Ultimate and now need to get my capture
card working. Currently it has no drivers and Device Manager says something
like: Device not working error code 10.
Here's what I have done to troubleshoot:
Change the mc receiver service to a local account.
Run HCWClear.exe
Downloaded Driver/application Installer version 3.4D1 from hauppauge.
(I contains several dozen drivers and apps like WinTV, I think I only need
the driver for my card pvr-150 MCE, but not sure which specific driver to
pick from the many choices in the driver folder downloaded from hauppauge)
Hauppauge suggests running HCWDriverInstall.exe which should identify the
hardware and pick the right driver but it does not find the hardware and
installs no drivers.
I tried pulling the card out, rebooting, and then putting it back in the
same slot, but got same result. So I think at this point I should either try
to figure out the exact name of the driver and force that to install or maybe
move the card to a new pci slot and hope that magically allows
HCWDriverInstall.exe to work. Can someone with a hauppauge pvr-150 send me
the 64-bit vista driver(s) name or something else to try ?
Thanks in advance.

Try another slot..... or remove the PVR150, then restart the PC so it really
isn't there, then shutdown and reinsert the card and startup again.

You are downloading the correct driver. You might have to change the slot.

So moving the card did not help, but this did:
1) Remove all pci-slot devices, except tuner card
2) Do Clean Install of Vista Ultimate (32-bit this time)
3) Run HCWDriverInstall.exe
4) Re-install pci-slot devices
O.K. not a solution available to all, but in this case my Vista was new
anyway,
so there was not much to lose.

If you also install the Hauppauge WinTV application can you get it to work?
