Hauppauge WinTV-PVR USB2
Posted by Lynne on November 10th, 2005

I just bought this as an additional tuner for my desktop running MCE. What I
am curious about is whether or not I can also use it on my non-MCE laptop. I
would love to take this on our travels. The Hauppauge web site says it
requires Windows XP/98SE/Me/2000 but the box says it requires Windows XP
Media Center Edition 2005. Has anyone tried this on a non-MCE laptop?

Thanks.

Lynne

Lynne,

There's no reason it wouldn't work on your laptop. You'll just need to load
their application (Hauppauge WinTV PVR) not MCE. It works just fine!

You should be able to download the drivers from hauppauge's website and also
the winTV 2000 application to use it on a normal laptop.

Thanks for the responses. I found that it does actually work but I am having
problems with the remote. It comes with an MCE remote (that I can use to
control my existing MCE box) but it won't work on the laptop. Do I need to
buy their regular remote? Its only $14.95 so the cost isn't an issue, but I
wonder if anyone knows if there is a way to get around this problem.

Thanks.

If you have the MCE version, than the regular remote won't work, but the
Firefly would. Either way, you need to carry the USB receiver with you.
