Help! Can't open Discover or Online Spotlight. Error messages
Posted by Cindy on April 11th, 2006

I just bought this computer a month ago and have had this problem since the
day I got it home. I have been around and around with HP trying to resolve it
and they finally told me to go to Microsoft. I have never been able to open
Discover, so I don't even know what it is. When I click Online Spotlight I
get a message saying "Media Center is unable to load the page
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?Linkld=14325. The program or website cannot
be found. Please be sure this program is on your computer or that you have a
weorking internet connection." Also, when I start my computer I get a pop-up
that reads "DISCOVER-Socket initialization failed". and a window that tells
me a program is trying to access the internet. I open it and it is network
connections. I am not on a network and can't figure out how to disable this
pop-up. The network connection already says disabled. For that error message
HP told me to go to msconfig and uncheck everything on the startup menu
except RECGUARD and KBD. Well there is no RECGUARD or KBC!! I told them that
and they ignored me. I have downloaded netframework like they said to but
that didn't work either. I also downloaded a debugger like they told me to
and that didn't work either. I have all the updates. I am at my wits end and
will soon start pulling my hair out. Please help.
