How about that...Sweden is live with EPG data now..
Posted by kalev- on October 14th, 2005

For those who are wondering:

I'm running an English version of MCE and ran Windows Update
and rebooted. Then you have two choices: "unmapped analog
or "unmapped digital"

It sucked down 14 days worth of 92 channels - all needing
to be remapped of course. But it was all trouble-free.

And now we are also part of the "my favorite channel is
missing" game...

So... we're do we Swede's get to report missing channels? :-)

But still, after a one years' worth of wait (with this
version) I'm still quite impressed. Thank you Chris Hill
and co.

The US and Canada version of the reporting tool is here.

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/m...idesubmit.mspx

We can only hope it will be updated to accomodate the new countries.

We can also only hope that they actually read these submissions for you in
Sweden - and perhaps fix them...unlike the results (or lack thereof) noticed
from error submissions originating with your cold canadian cousins north of
40....

As you may have seen earlier, Chris Hill is the on-point person for EPG issues. He is addressing the open issues as fast as he can.

Aw - just being a bit sarcastic! 4 or 5 Channels here in Toronto that are
poorly tuned - no 'easy' way to tune them in MCE (although that may change
one day...) I just couldn' resist a bit of teasing!

Chris has done a fantastic job and is a tremendous asset to everyone - as
are you Doug.

there's always the tuner override file.
And since the frequencies are listed on Rogers' website... (assuming you are
talking about Rogers cable service)...

All the pieces are there <g>

This tuner override file does not work for us.

One must edit the Registry to override a tuner frequency:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\TV System Services\TVAutoTune

Adding the channel number and proper frequency to the TS1-1 subkey.

Then - when the darn EPG downloads - it overwrites it and you have to hack
this key again! Daily to be exact! Luckily it can be automated...

I am with Ceogeco actually and have even sent the proper frequencies to MS.

Well, as a nice guy to avoid confusion on the WORLD Wide Web - I say
"Toronto" so people have a clue where I am. Even if you know little about
Canada - you have a reasonable idea where Toronto is.

So, if you know the area, then I can say I live in "Oakville".

However, where I am/what Cable provider I have is not relevant at all to the
point about Frequency Tuning. The EPG is wrong and only the registry hack
fixes it. And becaus ethe EPG overwrites these registry keys - it must be
hacked after every EPG download for proper tuning.
