How many Tv Tuner Cards does MCE 2005 support

I want to use x2 TV Tuner Cards, is this possible?

Yes, MCE 2005 will support one or two analog tuners and 1 HDTV tuner. You must have an analog tuner installed in order to install an HDTV tuner.

You can install 2 dual tuner cards, but MCE will only use two of the 4 tuners. You can search www.thegreenbutton.com for a registry hack that will allow you to enable more than two analog tuners. I haven't tried this hack, so I can't vouch for its effectiveness.

As long as they're in the list of supported cards, you can officially have
two of them. However, there's a thread at www.thegreenbutton.com that
discusses how to add more...apparently a tweaked MCE can support 4 analog
tuners.

Thanks, I will look into these ideas, but am a bit of a new-by to all this

CATV is the input cabling used right? CAT 5 ?
Who makes the PVR models you talk about?
Can you explain this for a novis.......>Gets tricky with regedits to
support more than 2 tuners using STBs and IR blasters

Really appreciate the help though..Thanks

CATV is "CAble TV", i.e. the coax cable.

The tuners he mentions are all made by Hauppauge.

Does your cable use "set top boxes", or do you have basic analog cable? If
you have analog cable, the mods are fairly easy. If you have to control a
set-top box (to make it change channels), then apparently the mods are more
complicated.

CATV = Cable TV.... cabling will be standard coax... the best is RG-6. CAT
5 and CAT 6 is ethernet cabling.

PVR 250 and 500 are made by Hauppauge (www.hauppage.com)

I don't have a set-top box, Just standard coax cable which will lead into the
PC and then will be using a mixture of Cat 5 and wirless networking.

Cheers...Chris

Doug,

Can you tell me if the ATI 9600 XT is supported in all modes by the MCE2005?

Thanks!

Yes, MCE 2005 will support one or two analog tuners and 1 HDTV tuner. You
must have an analog tuner installed in order to install an HDTV tuner.

The ATI 9600 series VIDEO cards do work in MCE, although it's
recommended not to use the low-end "SE" version (9600SE).

Was your question related to the 9600 video card, or to one of the 9600
"All-in-Wonder" cards (that have a tuner as well)? The AIW cards do not
work well. Officially, they don't work at all, because they don't have
hardware encoding, however ATI has drivers that will support them and
allow them to work, but they still don't work as well as cards with
hardware MPEG encoding.
