- How To Record From My Digital Recorder to My Media Center PC
- Posted by Panzerkiel on November 25th, 2005
I'm trying to figure out how I might connect my Media Center PC to my digital
video recorder but still use my current setup. I currently use a digital
recorder which receives my digital cable signal and records my shows to its
internal hard drive. I would like to be able to send some of my recorded
shows to my computer in order to edit them and burn them to DVD's after
editing them. I do not want to use my PC and Media Center to record and
watch TV. I just want to be able to transfer some recordings from my digital
cable box to my PC without having to use Media Center as my main interface.
If I follow the setup instructions, it seems that I will have to have my PC
on whenever I wish to watch or record TV.
I guess what I'm looking for is an alternative hardware setup to the default
setup instructions. Ideally, I would like to continue to use my digital
cable recorder as the main interface with my television and occasionally
transfer a show from it to my PC. I do not need my Media Center PC to
control my TV. I would like to use my television to watch recorded movies
without having the computer on or having to use the Media Center remote.

I figured out how to do what I want. By running RCA type lines from my DVR
to my PC, I am able to capture the audio/video signal to my hard drive. With
this arrangement I can still use my DVR remote to control my DVR and I do not
need to have my PC control my television.
